Welcome to the resource location for Faith Community/Parish Nursing in the Diocese of Saint Cloud.

This ministry is one of the many ways we are living out our mission to be Jesus’ “heart of mercy, voice of hope, and hands of justice.”

The Central MN Parish Nurse/FCN Group poses after the St. Cloud Hospital Spiritual Care Chaplains held a “Blessing of Hands” ceremony at the hospital chapel.  After the Blessing, FCN’s were treated to Brunch in celebration of National Nurses Week.

FCN’s assess the needs in their own church and some provide home visits for confidential listening, prayer, and referral to community health resources.

FCN’s go to hospitals and other facilities to provide confidential listening, presence and prayer while discussing health issues related to mind, body, and spirit.

FCN’s facilitate educational programs and provide materials for individuals or groups to promote a better understanding of the relationship of one’s lifestyle, attitudes and faith to wholeness.

After brunch,FCN’s shared what they are doing:

Holding a “Matter of Balance Class” to prevent falls, followed by a Tai Chi class; calling all in their parish who are over 80 to wish them a happy birthday and offer a prayer for them; put information in bulletins that promote wholeness (health of body, mind and spirit); bring communion to homebound along with a copy of the pastor’s homily and bulletin; offer a cancer prayer service; facilitate Grief Support groups; plan for First Aid for a church and training for ushers; make hospital and nursing home visits to parishioners; create prayer blanket and prayer shawl ministries and hand out; make visits to families with new babies; help people fill out Advance Care Plans; starting mental health support “Haven” for a community having several suicides and a murder; having a local Tech College bring dental hygiene students in to talk to Seniors about dental hygiene and care; leading support groups for Caregivers and more.

Many resources to use in our ministry were shared.

FCN’s build on and strengthen the capacity of individuals, families, and congregations to understand and care for one another as part of their relationship with God, faith traditions, themselves, and society.

“I have come that you may have life and have it to the full.”-John 10:10.
